CEO Breakfast September 2022

breakfast2-sEmpowering Leadership Breakfast

Thursday 22nd September 2022 8am to 9:45am (online, no fee)

Over recent months I have written and spoken extensively about the future of charity leadership, the challenges the sector’s leaders will increasingly face, and the urgent need to embrace far more distributed and empowered forms of leadership, moving decision-making much closer to the front line, and freeing the senior team to spend much more of their time looking forwards and outwards.

In almost all large charities, the single biggest barrier to this shift is the lack of genuine leadership capability below (and sometimes within) the executive team, because it will be their direct reports: the Senior Managers, Heads of Department, Assistant Directors, call them what you will, who will need to engage and lead this change, collaboratively, collectively, and consistently.

But right now, most people in this layer are more comfortable working within their own departmental silos, focused on tactical delivery rather than strategic aims, and few have the vision, perspective, and strength of relationships to work confidently across the organisation, let alone to operate as a cohesive, high performing leadership team.

So, how do we build the capacity, capability and culture we need, to align, empower and unlock the full potential of this extended leadership group?

To help you find the answers to that question, I will be hosting an inspiring, highly interactive and lively breakfast discussion, exclusively for the CEOs of large UK charities, on Thursday 22nd September 2022, on “Empowerment, and the Extended Leadership Team”.

My guests will include Juliet Bouverie, CEO of Stroke Association, and James Blake, CEO of YHA, both of whom will share honest insights and lessons from their last 18 months of intensive work on this very topic.

The session will begin at 8:00am on Zoom and will finish at 9:45am, and offers a unique opportunity for facilitated, in-depth, open and honest discussion with a high-level group of experienced peers.

To ensure a peer-group environment, this seminar is exclusively for CEOs of large registered charities and is free to attend. Numbers are strictly limited and seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to enquire about a place, please contact me by email as early as possible.
