CEO Breakfast Seminar September 2013

IoDSeptember 2013’s breakfast focused on the theme of “Adapting to Thrive” – how non-profit and charity organisations need to adapt to thrive in their modern under-funded, highly-competitive environments.

The breakfast took place at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London, and attendees included Richard Hawkes, CEO of Scope; Mark Lever, CEO of The National Autistic Society; Virginia Beardshaw, CEO of ICAN; Clare Pelham, CEO of Leonard Cheshire Disability; Paul Farmer, CEO of Mind; Petra Ingram, CEO of the Brooke; Marg Mayne, CEO of the VSO and David McCullough, CEO of the Royal Voluntary Service.

The discussion centred around the four major themes that had been identified through 1:1 interviews in advance of the breakfast, which were:

  • Opportunities for collaboration, competition and consolidation in the sector
  • Participation and the different roles of charities in the modern landscape
  • Creating the capability and culture needed in a rapidly changing environment
  • Making and raising money – the ethics and practicalities
